Shoo Fly, Don't Bother Me

I just tried to shoo a fly off my computer screen with the mouse pointer. Hmmm....didn't work.

Music Tuesday's -Mark 'em down in your calendars

I have always loved music. I was a band nerd in high school and college, I will listen to almost anything, and I can still describe exactly how I felt the first time I heard Kansas' "Carry on My Wayward Son" - I know, what a cliche but I can get so lost in the moment of a good song. I have always wondered what I would have done had I actually been good myself at singing or playing an instrument or something. I love to hear new bands and different sounds and so I thought I'd try to once a week, on Tuesdays, talk about a favorite or new band that I'm listening to, and if anyone has suggestions or thoughts-I'd love to hear them (unless they're from a certain co-worker of mine who will probably just rag on all my Country-laden choices.)

So it's Music Tuesday. Cause Music Monday's too obvious, and well....I didn't have anything else I wanted to say today-so why not!

Today, in honor of the hour or so my friends and I spent just hanging out, drinking a beer, and listening to some music after the K-State game on Saturday, I want to tell you all a little bit about one of the classics, the originals, the best Red Dirt Country musicians-Cross Canadian Ragweed.

Ragweed, or CCR, or whatever you may call them is one of my favorites. Whether you're talking live shows, CDs, or whatever-there is a song for everything. Tons of fun bar tunes that you can dance and sing along to, unbelievable guitar, and the songwriting and chemistry is what I believe has kept them around with such a loyal following for so long. 15 years and 10 cds! They just released their 10th CD on August 31st.

One of my favorite songs on the new CD that I'm pretty sure I could listen to over and over again is "Pretty Lady." And I think my friend Chance's favorite was "Drag" and the first release is "Kick in the Head" - all solid songs.

Cross Canadian Ragweed × Discography: "Listen"

Another reason that I absolutely love Cross Canadian Ragweed is their live show. Un-frickin-believable.

This is better than any Rascall Flatts or Big & Rich "country music."

If you are not familiar with these guys, I suggest you head immediately to your local music store or their website and buy as many as possible. You will thank me later.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And, as I was thinking about this post and hopping around from one website to another, I came across an artist just right now, that I've been listening to for the past hour or so, and so far I've loved every song she sang. Bonnie Bishop I think that because I lean so much towards the Red Dirt Country, that I just don't hear that many female artists-but you can bet that I'll be looking for her more in the future.
Tissues Please!
Now I realize that I tend towards the emotional side and I may cry over almost anything. But seriously, you have to check this out.
And another good one, that I also cried to while watching.
Master Bedroom
the BEFORE Pictures
Yes, that's all wallpaper-all wonderful wallpaper, with a border to boot!
He's more excited about what's gonna happen in the master bedroom, than how it looks.
Ewww......sorry about that one mom.
And the Beginning of the After pictures
Two of my awesome in-laws, exhausted from their constant inhalation of vinegar fumes.
Yea! Look at that beautiful paint color-NO, don't look down at that carpet. Stop it! please don't let it reflect on your feelings toward my new home.
I will post more pictures of the AFTER later, but it won't be until I find my camera.....ya that's probably not good, huh? I need some sort of a homing device for my camera and my phone and my keys and my husband and my Mt. Dew. I'm always seeming to lose those things.
TGIF
Today is a beautiful day because since it's today, that means that Tomorrow is only one day away, and there is nothing better than tomorrow!
Now that doesn't mean all Tomorrows, I mean, by Monday I'll be all pissed off at Tomorrow and I'll want to tell Tomorrow to shove it. But I can't, because Tomorrows are inevitable. But let me tell you about tomorrow, the Tomorrow that I am excited about.
Tomorrow is the first day of the new K-State Football Season. It's frickin' ridiculous! I can't even tell you. It's like I'm all jacked up on Mountain Dew- I'm so excited. We get to tailgate, see old friends, welcome Bill Snyder back, and watch college football. I don't know if I've told you, oh friends of mine, that I love me some college football. Especially K-State. The atmosphere, the food!, the cheering, the crying, the hard hits and huge passes, the good guys in purple, the band, seeing old co-workers from my Athletic Dept. days (and knowing that I can wear comfortable jeans, and nothing will go wrong because of me), trying to still get some pull, some sweet swag from my days at the Athletic Dept., those heartstopping moments when I'm so nervous I just about can't watch, my husband and I kissing after each touchdown, the postgame discussions, everything. Oh I can't wait!
But to get things started, I wanted to post my tailgate dip. You see, a couple of the blogs that I read have each focused on dips and recipes and whatnot, and now is the perfect time to share my recipe for the tailgate dip. And yes-this is THE tailgate dip, don't confuse it with anything else.
THE Tailgate Dip
2 boxes cream cheese,
1 can rotel (drained)
1 can Mexicorn (drained)
1 package dry ranch dressing mix
Mix together-The End, Amen.
Now, you can switch it up a bit, add more or less of whatever ingredient you want, but this is the one that works for me and my friends. And I do have to admit, I actually did use the Southwestern Corn one time, instead of the Mexicorn. It has black beans and onions, and it was pretty good too-but I know better than to screw around with this one for tomorrow. The boys are expecting the good stuff, the regular stuff that they're used to.
And you don't mess around with tradition on Game Day.
Just cause I know you're wondering...
The only way, and I mean the only way to drink Mountain Dew is out of a 32 oz. Styrofoam cup with approx. 3-5 ice cubes and a short straw. Don't screw around with that nasty stuff that comes out of a can or even the bottle. It's not worth it.
And no, I don't consider myself a diva-but I have been known to go on to another convenience store when the first place I'm at only has the plastic cups. That's just not right, my friends.
It's gonna be some good times!
This weekend my husband and I are traveling to his college roommate's place and are going to participate in a softball tournament. My husband is excited to see some old friends, play some softball, and just hang out.
I am excited to sit here:
And do nothing but hold one of these in my hand:
Amen sister.
In These Tough Economic Times....
Here you go....more FDIC info. Promise me though, if you have too much money in one bank, that you will let me know. And if you have too much money in one bank, why in the world are you sitting here reading my blog? I mean seriously!
http://finance.yahoo.com/banking-budgeting/article/107617/savers-should-manage-accounts-diligently.html?mod=banking-budgeting
No, but really, this information may be important for others you know. Your grandparents, or cousins, or great-aunty, or whomever you know that's just rolling in the dough-they need to keep their money insured and protected. Or maybe you could read the article, that way the next time you're at a dinner party and there's that awkward silence thing-you could just throw out a few FDIC facts and everyone will be really impressed with your massive amounts of knowledge.
Don't worry, you don't have to thank me. I already know.
Turn Your Speakers On
Have you listened to the music I have on my little playlist at the bottom here? I mean seriously, some of the best stuff. I just have a really good taste in music you see. When people ask me what kind of music I listen to, I tell them Country. But I'm not talking Rascall Flatts, or Toby Keith, or especially those idiots Big & Rich. I like real country, classic country, the good stuff, but especially what is called "Texas Country" or "Red Dirt Country." These are typically artists that come out of Texas or Oklahoma and it's a real Rock Country, alternative Country. Love it! Think Country music/lyrics with good-rock-guitar playing. Check out some of these guys if you want to hear true musicians.
Jason Boland
Cross Canadian Ragweed
Jackson Taylor Band
Casey Donahew Band - and again!
Aaron Watson
Ryan Beaver
Oh goodness, I could go on forever-but these are a few of my all time favorites and current obsessions. Please Please check them out. Yes these links are all YouTube videos, but go to their websites and you can hear so much more.
My name is Miranda, and I am a couch potato
It's time for me to come clean. I have a reality TV problem. Actually I just have a TV problem in general, but especially dumb Reality TV. My husband and I loveloveLOVE Big Brother. In fact, when the right person wins the POV or HOH or the right person gets evicted you can usually find us jumping around the living room-yes, literally jumping like two 14 year old girls who just got asked to the big dance on Friday.
I just got done with So You Think You Can Dance, and if you think watching my husband and I jump around the house is strange and amusing, good golly just wait til you see me in the midst of a good SYTYCD episode.
We still have Real World, Jon and Kate plus 8-who know's what will happen with that one, and then I will happen to get stuck on other shows that just catch my fancy one night. But now that summer is almost over, it's time for all the good shows to come back on. That's right, then I get into all sorts of stuff. I mean seriously, you should see our DVR list, it's frickin' ridiculous. Off the top of my head, these are the shows that I am excited to come back on with new episodes (and in no particular order-b/c I don't have time for that-Chelsea Lately will be coming on soon)
  • Bones (obsessive is what you would call me)
  • Big Bang Theory
  • How I Met Your Mother
  • High School Reunion (now that's some good bad reality tv stuff)
  • the Mentalist
  • In Plain Sight
  • Gary Unmarried
  • Brothers and Sisters
  • Private Practice
  • Grey's Anatomy(ya I know-real original)
  • Friday Night Lights (not as excited as my husband though)
Oh man, I hope that's it. I hope I'm not worse than that. Because seriously, that's depressing.
